Fall Newsletter 2019 | A Hand Up Not A Hand Out

Since 1981, Amarillo Habitat has been lending a hand up to people who sometimes have a hard time sustaining housing for their families. Many people in Amarillo - and around the world - are under the misconception these homes are free. This, however, is far from the truth.

Spring Newsletter 2019

Amarillo Habitat for Humanity has gone through some dramatic changes over the last year. From ReStore relocation to staff changes, Habitat is almost unrecognizable. In this issue, we will look back at this last year and how it has lead us to this point. A turning point in our affiliate’s history.

Spring Newsletter 2018 | Making A Difference

Volunteers are the heart and backbone here at Amarillo Habitat.

Our houses are built 95% by volunteers; just like you. No experience is necessary to volunteer, just the willingness to lend a helping hand. Amarillo Habitat aims to seek passionate individuals and organizations to join us in our fight against substandard housing in Amarillo. Time and time again, our community has demonstrated its generosity through countless hours of volunteering. So far this fiscal year (07/01/17 — 4/13/18), we have had 646 volunteers putting in a total of 5,371 hours! That means $129,655, in labor cost, is relieved from our budget, according to Independent Sector values. This is money not spent on paid workers; this is money going directly towards the building supplies it takes to make our mission possible. YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

By volunteering with us, you get to be a part of the change you want to see in our community. Because of your help and the time that you put in here at Habitat, you are helping provide a community, and a transformation for our partner families to achieve the strength, stability and shelter they need to build a better life.

Winter Newsletter 2017 | Home for the Holidays

We hear these sayings all the time “home for the holidays,” “home sweet home,” “there’s no place like home,” and “welcome home.” These sayings make you think of a safe place where you go to be comfortable and secure; however, for the families in our program, this has not always been the case. Before they partnered with Amarillo Habitat, they were living in unsafe or substandard housing.

However, their circumstances have greatly changed. We help our families make their dreams come true of owning their very own home. This new home is a place where they feel comfortable and safe; a place where their children can grow up; and most importantly, an affordable place they can be proud to call home. They have their very own “home for the holidays.”

We will only be able to continue to make a difference in the low-income housing crisis in Amarillo because of donations from people just like you. Whether you are one of our long time supporters, a volunteer that has given of your time, or one of our current homeowners that will have a home this holiday season because of Amarillo Habitat, we ask you to consider donating to Habitat, and  help us continue to provide homes for the holidays!

By giving to Habitat, you are supporting our mission, to put God’s love into action, by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope in Amarillo. Visit our website to give today, amarillohabitat.org, or you can mail your  donation to Amarillo Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 775, Amarillo, TX 79105.

Fall Newsletter 2017 | Versus Build

Our 1st Annual “Versus Build” is underway with two Habitat homes well on the way to completion.  The Versus Build is a competition in which two teams, comprised of businesses and organizations from our community, are competing to raise funds and volunteer their time to finishing their home first.  Team Hardhats is led by Owens Corning with the Amarillo Police Department, the Oeschger family, Venom Football, Xcel Energy and Bank of America as their partners.  Upshaw Insurance serves as the lead for Team Hammers and is partnered with the Amarillo Fire Department, Budweiser Distributing, Tascosa Road Fellowship, and Valero.

The teams have been neck and neck in the competition with both teams winning extra build days.  These teams have also done a great job with partnering with local restaurants for Habitat fundraisers from Texas Roadhouse to Beef ‘O’ Brady’s to Fire Slice Pizza and Blue Sky.  Watch our Facebook page for more Habitat fundraiser nights!  Also, a special thanks to KAMR Local 4 and Fox 14 for serving as our Premier Media Sponsor.

Beyond the incredible community involvement, we are so grateful to be constructing two Habitat homes simultaneously.  The Dahab and the Hau families have been working toward this moment for more than two years.  With partners like you, their dreams are being made possible.  If you would like to be involved with our Versus Build or for more information, please contact our office at (806) 383-3456 or visit our website at www.amarillohabitat.org.
