COLLEGIATE CHALLENGE

What ages can participate in the Collegiate Challenge?

Ages 18 to 25 may participate in this program and must have turned 18 by the first day of the project. Adult chaperones over the age of 25 are also welcome. Everyone must fill out a volunteer waiver.

How many can be in a group?

We can host up to 20 people per week (this includes chaperones).

What are the costs involved?

Please consider the following when making plans to participate:

  • Host-site contribution: $150 per person is what the Amarillo Habitat affiliate charges and are to be paid one month before arrival.

  • Transportation: Groups are responsible for their own transportation, and costs to and from the site, whether you are driving or flying.

  • Food: While here at Amarillo Habitat we will provide breakfast and some lunches. Dinner will be on your own.

What type of housing is provided?

Our facility offers a fully furnished basement with bunk beds, mattresses, linens, and a bathroom with a shower. It also has a game room area as well as a sitting area and a dressing room with mirrors.

What does a week look like?

Typically you’ll arrive at the host facility on Sunday afternoon, and depart the following Saturday morning. Our build days occur Monday through Friday. And we have created a weekly schedule to accommodate each group. Projects may include building a new house, repairs to an existing house, or another type of assignment that helps meet Habitat’s goals within that community. We will have some evening activities for your groups, but generally, your evenings will be free.
